MATTRESS CLEANING DIY TIPS!
It is amazing to think that we spend 1/3 of our lifes on bed without cleaning it! Ask around you, I'm pretty sure at least half of the population do not clean their mattress regularly or maybe never before!
Mattresses are at the receiving end of all our daily 'waste' like dead skin cells, sweat, saliva and many other body intimate liquid. We should clean them regularly. Worrying about cost? Fear not, follow the DIY steps below and you can save money on hiring professionals!
1) The mother of all cleaning will definitely be vacuum!
Vacuum can get rid of most of the surface dirt and dust easily. This is the most easy and important steps.
2) Stain Treatment
Stain removal is tricky. There is no one technique for all stains, the approach here is to reduce the visibility and lighten the shade. A good multi purpose mixture will be baking soda, mild detergent and hydrogen peroxide. Spray the mixture onto the stain and blot gently using a clean white cloth.
3) Odour Removal
Spread baking soda onto your mattress after stain treament. Baking soda is extremely effective in absorbing excess moisture from your mattress. Let it set in on your mattress for at least 2 hours. This will effectively remove any odour causing moisture. Remember to vacuum your mattress thoroughly after 2 hours to completely remove the baking soda.
4) Sun and Ventilation
Sunning your mattress is the best way to remove odour, stain and it is a free anti-bacterial treatment! If it is not possible try moving to the nearest window to get the morning or evening sun. Leave it standing for a few hours to air it and ventilate it.
5) Mattress Protector
It is important to invest in a good mattress protector. They are the first line of defense in cases of spills or dirt and dust. They can be easily removed and washed. Washing your mattress protector regularly is as good as washing your mattress regularly!
