How to clean your toilet?

Cleaning a toilet thoroughly is an essential part of maintaining hygiene and a fresh-smelling bathroom. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to clean your toilet thoroughly:

  1. Gather your supplies: You'll need rubber gloves, toilet bowl cleaner (either a commercial cleaner or a homemade solution), a toilet brush, a scrub brush or old toothbrush, a bucket of water, a microfiber cloth or paper towels, and disinfecting wipes (optional).

  2. Put on rubber gloves: To protect your hands from germs and cleaning chemicals, put on a pair of rubber gloves before you begin.

  3. Flush the toilet: Start by flushing the toilet to wet the inside of the bowl. This will make it easier for the cleaner to spread and work effectively.

  4. Apply toilet bowl cleaner: Follow the instructions on the cleaner you're using. Typically, you'll need to squeeze the cleaner around the inside of the toilet bowl, targeting the area just under the rim and around the edges of the bowl. Allow the cleaner to sit for the recommended amount of time (usually 5-10 minutes) to allow it to break down stains and kill bacteria.

  5. Scrub the bowl: Take the toilet brush and scrub the inside of the bowl thoroughly, paying attention to the waterline, under the rim, and the entire surface area of the bowl. Use a firm back-and-forth motion to loosen any stains or grime. Make sure to get into all the nooks and crannies.

  6. Clean under the rim: Use the scrub brush or an old toothbrush to clean under the rim of the toilet bowl where the water comes out. Gently scrub to remove any mineral deposits or build-up. This area is often overlooked but can harbor bacteria and cause odors.

  7. Clean the exterior: While the cleaner is working inside the bowl, take a damp microfiber cloth or paper towels and wipe down the exterior surfaces of the toilet, including the tank, lid, seat, and base. If there are any stains or grime, you can use a mild all-purpose cleaner or disinfecting wipes to remove them.

  8. Clean the seat and lid: Lift the seat and lid, and clean both sides with a damp cloth or disinfecting wipes. Pay attention to any hinges or crevices where dirt can accumulate.

  9. Rinse and flush: After you've scrubbed the bowl and cleaned the exterior, use the toilet brush to agitate the water in the bowl and rinse off any remaining cleaner. Then, flush the toilet to remove all the cleaning solution.

  10. Dry and polish: Use a clean, dry microfiber cloth or paper towels to wipe down the toilet bowl, seat, lid, and surrounding areas. This will remove any remaining moisture and leave a polished finish.

  11. Dispose of gloves and cleaning materials: Remove your gloves carefully and dispose of them properly. Clean and dry your cleaning tools and store them in a designated area for future use.

Remember to follow the instructions and safety precautions provided by the specific cleaning products you use. It's also a good idea to ventilate the bathroom during and after cleaning to minimize exposure to cleaning fumes.
